MAY 28: Memorial Day
For Memorial Day by family got together and had a barbeque. We ended up having a massive hail storm, so Rocky had to cook the bratwurst in the rain and we ate inside.
MAY 29: Put a Pillow on Your Fridge Day
Some holidays you just look at and think "why does this day even exist." Today happened to be one of those days. That's half the reason I started doing this whole holiday thing though. All of the really weird, random ones fascinate me. When I saw Put a Pillow on Your Fridge Day was on May 29 I knew this had to be the one. I even let it beat out biscuits, paperclips, and Coq Au Vin. My roommates were probably confused by it though, because I put a pillow on top of the fridge and left for the day.
MAY 30: Creativity Day
For National Creativity Day I worked on making ties. I bought a bunch of different cool fabrics and started cutting them all out. We'll see what happens and if I actually do something with them or not, but I guess I would have to finish some first. Here's some of the fabrics I got:
MAY 31: Utah Day
Any Utahns here know the Utah state song? When I was in elementary school we'd sing it every Thursday after announcements. Ironically, Utah Day happened to fall on a Thursday. I ended up driving around in my car singing the Utah song (Utah! This is the Place!) because I'm a huge dork.
I know that Utah can get a lot of crap from people, but I really like it. I've lived here my entire life and it really is special. We get four beautiful seasons. There's the amazing mountains surrounding us. Up north you have the carribean blue of Bear Lake and down south there's the red rock mountains. It's been a wonderful place to live and grow up, so as Brigham Young and the song says: this is the place.
JUNE 1: Donut Day
Friday was Donut Day. My parents and I started out by going to our usual Donut Shop: Daylight Donuts. Unfortunately, things rarely go as planned, and they were sold out of donuts by 9 am. Luckily, Provo Bakery was prepared and had a bazillion different donuts ready for donut day! I made sure that I got a blue one.
JUNE 2: Rotisserie Chicken Day
This day happened to also be National Hug a Cheer Coach Day so I went into work planning on hugging my coworker Jessica, who also is a cheer coach. When I got there I found out she wasn't working, so I had to celebrate Rotisserie Chicken Day instead.
Growing up, my mom would always buy Rotisserie Chickens and use them in various ways. When we went grocery shopping we'd come home and my sister and I would debone the chicken. I always hated doing that, because your hands would get so greasy and it was so hard to get them to feel normal again. The worst was when you let it cool in the fridge first and the fat would congeal.
Rotisserie Chicken is really great for recipes though, and to the horror of my preteen self, I bought one of my own free will to celebrate the holiday.
JUNE 3: Egg Day
I don't know about you guys, but eggs have always been one of my favorite late night snacks. Especially scrambled eggs. Luckily, my parents had two eggs at there house that I could cook up to celebrate the day.
My favorite holiday this week was Donut Day. The fact that we couldn't find any the first place we went made it more fun because suddenly we were on the hunt. Get ready for next week, because there's some really fun ones including cheese and drive-in movies!
