JUNE 11: German Chocolate Cake Day
If life gives you an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone you should usually take it. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before, but I bring a birthday cake for every one of my coworker's birthdays at the Trolley (See! I really do like celebrating!). It just so happened that German Chocolate Cake Day fell on a day for me to bring a birthday cake, and so I brought a German Chocolate Cake to celebrate!
JUNE 12: Jerky Day
For the rest of this week I would be at my cabin in Bear Lake, which added a bit of a challenge for some of the holidays. Luckily, jerky isn't so hard to find. I really love jerky. When I was younger I saved up and bought a dehydrator so I could make my own beef jerky. The best jerky I've ever had was from a stand from the side of the road. There was a cute old man selling it and I bought some teriyaki elk jerky. It was amazing.
For Jerky Day I went to the gas station in Garden City and bought various types of jerky:
The Lorissa's Kitchen Korean Barbeque beef jerky was my favorite of the three. The Ginger Teriyaki was alright, and I found the Thompson's Smokehouse beef jerky awful.
JUNE 13: Sewing Machine Day
Usually Sewing Machine Day would be an easy one for me to celebrate because I love to sew. I have taken six sewing classes at BYU so far (Beginning, Intermediate, Knits & Swimwear, Pattern Making, Heirloom & Children's Wear, and Tailoring). I am also a TA in the sewing labs during the school year. Here's some of my favorite things I've made over the years:
This is the second swimsuit I made in my Knits & Swimwear Class. The front has a high neck and scalloped edges. I had always wanted a white swimsuit, but they always seem to be see through. Since I made my own I was able to double line it to prevent the see-through-ness!
JUNE 14: Strawberry Shortcake Day
Being at Bear Lake, my options in shortcakes were very limited. I ended up getting twinkies, fresh strawberries and whipped cream. My cute mom put together our cabin version of Strawberry Shortcake.
JUNE 15: Kiss a Wookie Day
You know I wouldn't pass up Kiss a Wookie Day! We watched The Last Jedi and then when Chewbacca came on the screen I paused the movie and kissed the screen.
JUNE 16: Fudge Day
I was really glad that National Fudge Day fell on a week I was in Bear Lake because there's the cutest little chocolate shop in Garden City called the Chocolate Bear that has all kinds of fudge. We got four kinds of fudge: Snickers bar, mint, Rocky Road, and spoon fudge. The spoon fudge is creamier and comes in a tiny little jar with a spoon attached. Rocky really liked the Rocky Road.
JUNE 17: Father's Day
I've always been called a daddy's girl, so I love celebrating my dad! I spent the whole day with him at the cabin. For Father's Day I got my dad a wooden tie (he collects wooden things) and a book on the Beatles.
This week was full of things I love from sewing to wookies to my dad. I had a lot of fun celebrating, and it was interesting to have the extra challenge of doing it while on vacation.

I helped my friend make this cute stuffed animal for his niece when she was in the hospital.
Before my study abroad to Europe last summer I went with my friend, Claire, to D.I. and got a bunch of clothes that I made alterations to to wear to Europe. The skirt in this picture was once a long tube top dress.
This outfit is super fun because I made the entire thing. I made the t-shirt in my knits and swimwear class and I made the skirt in my beginning sewing class. It has an exposed zipper going all the way down the back, which is super fun! The pattern originally had a lapped zipper, but the great thing about sewing is that you can make changes to really make things your own.
I really put this picture in because it's a picture of me in my Pattern Making class with my dress form for the draping unit, "Scarlett JoMannequin". I did make the skirt in this picture though.
I definitely had to add a picture of the suit coat that I tailored, because it took me over 150 hours to make, from making a mock-up out of muslin so I could alter the pattern to fit Parker perfectly to hand sewing in the lining. I've never been more proud of anything than this jacket!
Since I was at my cabin on National Sewing Machine Day I couldn't sew, but I did go to the antique shop north of the lake and bought an antique Singer sewing machine.
